When Jesus is approached by a godly Bible-believing religious leader who agrees that Jesus is from God, He tells him that this is not what would bring that man into the Kingdom of God. What he needed, what we all need, is to be reborn with a new heart and new identity; to be reborn as children of God. However, we naturally desire what is against God, and those things lead to judgment and death. What we need is a new heart and a new life. Jesus tells him that this is exactly what He would accomplish when He would be lifted up on the cross to die for us. Only He could give it, because only He has this naturally. The Gospel is that we get what He has, and what He deserve, since He got what we deserve on the Cross. This gift that Jesus won for us on the Cross is delivered to us by God the Holy Spirit.
