The Galileans, Jesus' hometown crowd, honoured the signs and wonders that Christ did, instead of honouring the One to whom those signs pointed. However an important official came to Jesus not demanding a sign, but desperately and humbly asking for the Lord to rescue his beloved son from the point of death. When Jesus said that He would do this, the man believed Jesus' words. The healing of this important man's beloved son became a sign - evidence not only that Jesus should be trusted, but what we should trust Him for. God did not spare His own beloved Son from the point of death so that all who trust in Him would have HIM eternally.
