The Death of Jesus

Sermon Outline

3 Things that happened when Jesus died which show us the heart of the gospel:

  1. And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?”, which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”               
    • -Jesus experienced God’s punishment and rejection
  2. And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed His last. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.           
    • -We were reconciled to God to live in His presence
  3. And when the centurion, who stood facing Him, saw that in this way He breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”            
    • -A way was made for us to believe and trust in Jesus to receive these good gifts from God
