Hebrews 7.11-28

Sermon Outline:

  1. God's Gospel gives a better hope than God's Law (7:11-19)

  3. Only Christ can save to the uttermost (7:25-28)

Family Discussion Questions:

Younger and Older:

  • Why did the Old Testament priests not get to do their work forever?  Why then can Jesus continue His work for us forever?
  • Will God hear your prayers because of what you've done for Him or because of what Jesus did for you?
  • Why is it better to have a relationship with God based on His promise instead of having a relationship with God based on how good you are?

Deeper Discussion:

  • If the Law of God was useless to bring us to God, what was it's purpose?
  • Christians too are tempted to relate to God according to the Law instead of by the Gospel.  What does that mean?
  • Why do Christians keep the Law of God even though we do not draw near to God by it?
  • The ceremonies and ornate clothing by which the Levitical priests became priests were all external and outward.  How does this communicate that Christ's work for us would be greater?
  • How does knowing that Christ saves you to the uttermost help you to: Draw near to God?  Turn from all sin?  Humble yourself?
